Text Box: The Lucas County Arts Council has been given the former Midwest Heritage Drive-up Bank and will relocate it to a location on the west end of the freight dock at the CB&Q Freight House. The building will be used for a Visitor Center and also as a place to house railroad artifacts and an h/o scale model of early 1900's Chariton. The working model will re-create the former bustling railroad hub that once was Chariton, complete with many of the buildings that were once located here. The interior walls will be replaced with memorial walls that will be dedicated to our military heroes, loved ones, CHS Alumni, former and current railroad employees and others. Directional signage will be placed at key highway locations to direct travelers to the Visitor Center where they can obtain information on other attractions throughout the State. An historic railroad park and grounds surrounding the area will be named for S.H. Mallory, a former railroad entrepreneur that resided in Chariton from around 1867-1903.
